...we're Luma cause we’re
bringing light inside your brain
we’re knotty cause we
got these locs that can’t be tamed...

Our Story
Luma Knotty will bring you on an illuminated musical journey, serving up an original blend of guitar-driven funk, rock, and reggae. The infectious horn lines elevate the band's raw energy, giving their sound a powerful, yet polished aura. Hailing from Green Bay, Wisconsin, this group is continuously evolving, while still honoring their diverse musical roots. Founded in 2017 by guitarist Ryan Patrick with the idea to fuse his musical upbringing in blues & funk rock with his training from McNally Smith College of Music and his years of experience in roots reggae. While writing original music and lyrics telling stories of love, loss, and awakening, Ryan wanted to create a more modern approach to reggae. Referencing his love for vibrant stage lighting, his lyrics of awakening, and using a play-on-words for his locs, "Luma Knotty" was born. Luma Knotty was awarded the 2019 & 2024 WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) Award in the World category. Their first EP ‘Sounds of Earth’ was released February 2020, and their first full-length album 'Bring the Light' was released January 2023. Their newest 11-song album ‘Favorite Dream’ was released September 25, 2024. All of Luma Knotty's music is available on your favorite streaming platform. Luma Knotty has opened for such bands as: Mihali (Twiddle) at Vivarium, EN Young (Tribal Seeds), Boulevards, Sophistafunk, and the Burkina Faso band Baba Commandant & The Mandingo Band at Turner Hall Ballroom. They play such events as: Mile of Music, Fox Cities Experience, Oshkosh Main Street Music Fest, All Bands on Deck Music Festival, Levitt Amp Stevens Point Music Series, Vibin' in the Pines Music Festival, World Naked Bike Ride Milwaukee, and Bastille Days in Milwaukee, as well as featured on 105.7 WAPL, WCZR Code Zero Radio, Into the Music, and WFRV Channel 5.
