Our Story

Hailing from Green Bay, Wisconsin, Luma Knotty is continuously evolving, while still honoring their diverse musical roots. Founded in 2017 by guitarist Ryan Patrick with the idea to fuse his musical upbringing in blues & funk rock with his training from McNally Smith College of Music and his years of experience in roots reggae. While writing original music & lyrics to tell stories of love, loss, & awakening, Ryan wanted to create a modern approach to reggae, setting the vibe using vibrant stage designs. Luma Knotty was awarded the 2019 & 2024 WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) Award in the World category. Their first EP ‘Sounds of Earth’ was released in February 2020 and their full-length album 'Bring the Light' was released on January 30, 2023. New music is on the horizon for the band, with a new album to be released summer 2024. All of Luma Knotty's music is available on your favorite streaming platform as well as at lumaknotty.com. Luma Knotty has opened for such bands as: Mihali (Twiddle), EN Young, Boulevards, Sophistafunk, and Baba Commandant & The Mandingo Band. They play such events as: Mile of Music, Electric City Experience now Fox Cities Experience, Oshkosh Main Street Music Fest, All Bands on Deck Music Festival, Badger State Brewing Summer Concert Series, Levitt Amp Stevens Point Music Series, Vibin' in the Pines Music Festival, World Naked Bike Ride Milwaukee, and Bastille Days in Milwaukee, as well as featured numerous times on 105.7 WAPL, WCZR Code Zero Radio, and WFRV Channel 5.
